Policy on Broken or Stolen Dongles and Software

What is Licom's policy regarding broken or failed software protection keys (dongles)?

A temporary D-50 (50 life) key is immediately sent to you with a request that the original key is returned to us. When the failed key is returned to Licom, a ‘normal’ replacement key is sent to you.

What is Licom's policy regarding lost or stolen dongles?

If you are on the Licom Support and Maintenance Plan (SMP), are in the UK or Ireland, have paid any outstanding maintenance and can provide a valid police report detailing the break-in. You will be entitled to receive a replacement dongle for the small administration fee of £100.

If you are not on the SMP a temporary D-50 (50 life) key is immediately sent to you with a quotation for the cost of an additional seat. This price is discounted, being a second seat. If you are not on the SMP you should claim this cost from your insurance company. A normal replacement key is sent to you when we have received payment in full for the replacement key.

Will your insurance company pay for a lost or stolen key?

Normally, yes. none of our customers have had problems over this with any of the several insurance companies involved during the past few years, except for a very few where the insurance company considered that the company had been negligent and had not adequately protected the key from theft or loss. In almost all cases so far, they have acknowledged that a 'lost' or stolen key means that probably someone somewhere can use our software. Since you have paid for the stolen key, they agree that our policy of charging for a second (or third…) seat is fair and reasonable.

What is Licom's policy regarding lost, stolen or damaged AlphaCAM CDs?

If you are on the SMP, you will be sent a CD with the latest released version of the software at no additional charge. If you are not on the SMP, and your software is not the latest release, you will be quoted for the price to update your software to the latest version (variable depending on which AlphaCAM modules you have). Licom will not under any circumstances supply obsolete software.

Will your insurance company pay to update your AlphaCAM software?

No. If you choose not to join the SMP to keep your software up to date at all times, you should make a copy of your CD and keep it in a place away from work. It is not sufficient to keep copies of just the AlphaCAM modules that you use – you need the full CD to re-install your modules.

Will your insurance company pay to replace your drawings and NC programs if they are lost?

No. You should make regular backup copies of all your work and keep the backups in a place away from work.

What happens if our supplier of software protection keys goes out of business?

Our software can use dongles from two suppliers. If one of them stops supplying for any reason, keys from the other supplier can be used.
