Running AlphaCAM on Windows 2000 in a Domain Environment.
When Running AlphaCAM on a Windows 2000 workstation that is a member of a
Windows NT or Windows 2000 Domain, additional steps are required in order to allow AlphaCAM to run on the networked workstation as the default security settings in Windows 2000 have changed significantly from those within Windows NT 4.
Due to the way in which security is implemented on Windows 2000 users that are only in the Domain users group will have insufficient rights when running AlphaCAM on their local machine.
Typical errors experienced will be:
1 Unable to set default Post
2 Unable to access the Visual Basic for Application Editor
3 Error messages such as unable to initialise VAO
There are a number of workarounds.
1 Add the user into the Account Administrators or Server Administrators group on the Domain.
2 On the Local WorkStation Add the users Domain account e.g. \\Domain\UserName or any Domain group that the user is a member of to either the Power Users or Administrators group on the local workstation adding him to the Power Users group will give him exactly the same permissions on his local computer that he had when running a workstation under Windows NT 4.
If You have upgraded a network workstation from Windows NT 4 to Windows 2000 then the upgrade process will keep permissions on the Windows 2000 workstation compatible with Windows NT 4 so this issue will not apply.
Further details should be obtainable from your network administrator or Licom Systems technical support.
