When installing drivers for a DK38 / DK2 software protection key (dongle) We have witnessed the following problem. The installation program asks you to uninstall the previous driver version first, but cannot do this because the uninstall program will not run - so you're stuck!
The answer to this involves editing the registry of the PC as follows...
*** FOLLOW THESE INSTUCTION CAREFULLY TO AVOID UNRECOVERABLE DAMAGE TO YOUR PC ***
Start > Run
type regedit
OK
The registry editor will open. In Registry Editor, a 'folder' that appears in the left pane of the Registry Editor window is known as a key. A key can contain subkeys and value entries. For example, Environment is a key of HKEY_CURRENT_USER.
Now go to...
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > Software > Microsoft > Windows > Current Version > Unistall > Deskey DK2 Unistall
...and delete the key. You may need to reboot before trying to install the Deskey driver again. If in doubt call you local helpdesk first.
Also
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Data Encryption Systems Limited\DESkey Control Panel
This is what the driver install uses to detect the previous version so removing this will help. This key will exist in this location on all operating systems.
