Alphacam V7.5 Fails to Find Network License

Possible Solution - LSHOST Environment Variable or File

Possible Solution - UDP Port 5093 (Across WAN or Another Subnet)

Possible Solution - Known Issue with DisableUnicastResponsesToMulticastBroadcast

Possible Solution - LSHOST Environment Variable or File

It may be required to set the name or IP address of the server running the Sentinel License Manager.  This can be done one of two ways...

Option 1

  1. Add an environment variable named LSHOST to the PC which is running Alphacam, not the License Manager (see instructions here)
  2. Set the value of this variable to the name or IP address of the License Manager server (e.g. SERVER_NAME or 192.168.0.100)

Option 2

  1. Create a new text file and name it LSHOST, with no extension (download example here)
  2. Edit the LSHOST file (e.g. open in Notepad) and enter the name or IP address of the License Manager server in the first line of the file (e.g. SERVER_NAME or 192.168.0.100)
  3. Save and close the LSHOST file
  4. Copy or move the LSHOST file to the main Alphacam folder (e.g. C:\Program Files\ALPHAV75)

With either method, you can provide a list of license server names if multiple servers are to be searched. Each name must be separated by a : symbol (e.g. SERVER_ONE:SERVER_TWO).  Alphacam will try each license server in the list, beginning with the first.

Possible Solution - UDP Port 5093 (Accross WAN or Another Subnet)

The Sentinel License Manager communicates by sending UDP packets on port 5093. To access your License Manager across a WAN or different subnets, port 5093 must be opened up (forwarded) to allow two way communications to and from the server running the License Manager.

Possible Solution - Known Issue with DisableUnicastResponsesToMulticastBroadcast

Alphacam V7.5 and/or the Sentinel License Monitor (wlmadmin.exe) fail to find a network license after installing certain pieces of software.  One example is Altova's XML editor called "XMLSpy", but there may be others as well.

After installing XMLSpy, the following value can be found in the Windows Registry...

DisableUnicastResponsesToMulticastBroadcast = 1

Under the following key...

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\SharedAccess\
Parameters\FirewallPolicy\DomainProfile

or...

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\SharedAccess\
Parameters\FirewallPolicy\StandardProfile

With this value set to 1, Alphacam may not be able to find the network license manager.

Resolution

Change the DisableUnicastResponsesToMulticastBroadcast value to 0.  You will need Administrator level privileges in order to make this change.

Always take caution when modifying your system registry.  If you are not confident in doing this, please contact your system administrator for assistance.
